Your First
3D Shoot
An outdoor 3D shoot involves shooting life-size
3-dimensional animal targets set up in natural settings (woods, fields etc).
- You shoot one arrow at each target, the
shooting"line" is a stake or marker in ground which (depending
on the shoot) is either set up at a marked yardage distance from the target or
an unmarked distance (when unmarked you must estimate the yardage to the
target and aim accordingly)
- Lakehead Archers has 3 different adult classes
at each shoot, when numbers permit we have seperate male and female divisions
in each class;
- traditional - you must use
traditional bows, recurve or longbows with no sights. The targets will be a
maximum of 35 yds
- Hunter class - you can use
any kind of equipment and the targets are set up a maximum of 35 yards from
the stake
- Challenge - any
equipment and the targets are set up a maximum of 50 yds (5 yds variance) from
the stake
- Crossbow - maximum
50yds
- NO BROADHEADS allowed to be shot at the 3D
targets (or any other club targets) under any circumstances.
We also have a number of youth divisions, there
are some changes here which will bring us in line with changes made by
some governing bodies;
- Peewee division - 9 yrs and
under, maximum yardage of 15 yards
- Pre-Cub division - 12 yrs and
under, maximum of 25 yards
- Cub division
- 14 yrs and under, maximum yardage of 35 yards
-
Cadet division - 16 yrs and under, maximum yardage of 35 yards
- Junior division -
17yrs, maximum yardage of 35 yards
Youth archers may choose to shoot in an older age
division or the adult divisions. If entered in the adult division they must
then pay the adult shoot fee.
- The targets are scored as follows;
- 5pts - anywhere in the body color
of the target (antlers or horns, hoofs, rocks or logs score a zero)
- 8pts - anywhere inside the furthest
outside scoring ring (simulates vitals) on target
-10pts- anywhere inside the larger
circle which is located within the 8pt area
- 10X - counts as 10 points and a X for tie
breaking the X-ring is located inside the 10 ring
***an arrow must only touch the line of the higher
scoring zone to receive the hgiher scoring value
someone in the group other than
the shooter should call the value of their own arrow
- Leave the target as it was before you shot it,
if it moved while pulling arrows please re-set it properly.
- You cannot break branches or remove foliage from
the course or shooting lanes, this is part of the challenge. You may
have to bend or stretch a little or shoot kneeling. When the course is
set up every effort is made to ensure that the complete vital area is
unobstructed for both left and right hand shots.
- The persons shooting the stakes (distance) furthest
from the target must shoot the target first - ie. Challenge stake, then Hunter
class, then Peewee.
- You cannot discuss yardage or
share information regarding the yardage of a target with other Archers.
- A part of your body must touch the stake or
marker while you take the shot.
- Range finders are not allowed on the course
except for the Hunter round.
- binoculars are allowed (encouraged) to see where
the scoring areas of the target are located. National bodies have a rule
of a maximum magnification power of 8.5X - however we do not enforce it
locally.
- Awards are given for the top 3 positions in each
division on the following basis - 3 shooters 1 award, 4shooters 2 awards, 5
shooters 3 awards. This rule does not apply to the youth divisions.
- Except where otherwise stated the first round
shot will be the round which is considered in the standings.
- All prizes are given out by random draw from the
list of all registered shooters.
- score cards must be submitted immediately after
the round is complete to be considered for awards.
- Every attempt should be made to have no more
than 5 shooters in a group, if you see that your group is slowing up the
course do not rush just let the group(s) behind you shoot through.
- Allow the group ahead of you to pull their
arrows and leave the target lane before approaching the shooting stake.
- If you or your group are looking for arrows
behind the target be sure to leave someone in front of the target so the group
behind you doesn't start shooting, if there are groups behind you please keep
arrow searching time short - you can go back later to look.
- If you find an arrow that doesn't belong to you
bring it back to the clubhouse and place it in the found arrow bucket.
You will appreciate it when someone inevitably returns the favor.
It is going to take awhile to shoot the course,
many people stop in at the canteen half way through the course for a rest and
snack/meal.
